Hanna Flat Campground (Big Bear)

Over the weekend, we embarked on a brief camping getaway—a chance to unwind and recharge. Our destination was Hanna Flat Campground in Fawnskin, CA, nestled amidst the mountains on the north shore of Big Bear Lake. Access to the site involves an unimproved road, recommended for high-clearance vehicles (although some Tesla’s managed it).

On Saturday morning, we set out for the Hanna Flat Campground Trail, a 12-mile out-and-back route. While we covered only a mile, the experience was thoroughly enjoyable.

After a post-hike nap, we improvised dinner. Despite forgetting our other cast iron pans at home, I had brought along our dutch oven (a fortunate decision). Using it over the campfire, I cooked up some veggies before grilling steak on the campfire grill.

As evening descended, we gathered by the fire, gazing up at the stars. And yes, our trusty truck even got a taste of mud!
